Finally!

The Jewel Glacier last season on a sunny day.Uncharacteristically, it seems Alaska is not the first place in the States to see it's citizens celebrating the return of our favorite season. I've seen pictures of Jackson Hole recently blessed with plenty of powdered joy in the high country and at least some folks out sliding around on it on skis. Good for them. Last year saw first turns made up here at the end of September. We were close again this season.

More Early Season Pics

Most of my skiing in Alaska has been solo missions so it was nice to get out with my partner Marc today. He works harder than me and juggles ski time with family commitments. I get great enjoyment in facilitating good times for guys like him. Guess it's the guide in me. Plus, photos are usually better with friends in them.

More Early Turns - Waiting for Winter

One of the tasty faces off the Milk GlacierWinter is taking it’s sweet time getting here, even here in Alaska. The powder day I had under blue skies two weeks ago was just a tease. I went back to Crow Pass last Sunday for a tour on an adjacent glacier, the Milk, but the snow was hammered. Still, seeing that terrain was cool even if the run down was survival skiing.
